“Yoga does not just change the way we see things, it transforms the person who sees”. B.K.S. Iyengar
Amy Brown – Studio Owner, B.S., Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher CIYT II
To begin with my journey into Yoga was unremarkable. I did it – I liked it. Simple enough. But somehow I knew there was more to the Yoga than just doing the poses with the teacher.
Along the path to find Yoga – the remarkable adventure began. I discovered the Iyengar Yoga program at UCR. The Iyengar discipline resonated with me so I jumped in feet first. While I was studying, teaching and practicing I started having panic attacks and bouts of anxiety. I used Yoga sequencing to help resolve these issues. Then in the early 2000s, I discovered I had severe osteoarthritis of my hip. In 2007 I ended up having a total hip replacement. I used Yoga sequencing before to help with pain and after to help in my recovery. In 2012 I retired from my corporate job to open a Yoga studio. Soon after I opened the studio, I found out that my hip replacement was faulty and I needed a revision surgery. So in June 2012 I closed my studio and had hip revision surgery. During one of the most devastating periods of my life, I found solace in my yoga practice and again, I used the Yoga all during my recovery.
My road toward enlightenment has been rocky indeed. However, these adventurers only brought me deeper into the yoga. Helped me to understand how yoga can heal – mentally, physically and emotionally. My own experiences with human frailty and recovering from a serious injury– somehow made me a better teacher. Yoga has changed my life in every way imaginable.
I spent years studying and practicing to earn my Iyengar Yoga teacher certification. Iyengar Yoga focuses on alignment, form and sequence to insure that every student practices safely and mindfully. With the years of education, teaching and my own personal experience I am better able to guide students – of any age and ability -toward a path to Yoga that fits for them. I hope that you will come and join me for classes and discover how Iyengar Yoga can change your life too! Namaste’
