“The rhythm of the body, the melody of the mind, and the harmony of the soul create the symphony of life.” B.K.S. Iyengar
What is Iyengar Yoga? (pronounced-eye-yen-gar)
Iyengar Yoga, one of the world’s most widely practiced forms of Yoga, emphasizes correct alignment of all parts of the body within each Yoga pose. This precision builds strength and stamina – balance and flexibility – and a new sense of well being. Achieving meditation in action, students learn to exist fully and vibrantly in the present moment.

Called the Michelangelo of Yoga and the king of Yogis, named one of Time Magazines 100 most influential people, B.K.S. Iyengar is universally acknowledged as the world’s greatest Yoga teacher.
Iyengar brought yoga to the west with his pioneering teaching in the 70s, the beginning of today’s explosive growth in yoga. His seminal manual Light on Yoga, called “the bible of yoga” and continuously in print since 1966, has been the source book for generations of yoga students. Mr. Iyengar’s most recent work is the bestselling Light on Life, which led to a world tour of standing-room-only appearances.
His invention of yoga props — now ubiquitous in yoga studios of all styles — revolutionized the art. Blankets, belts and other devices allow students of all skill levels to work safely in the classical yoga asanas (postures). Mr. Iyengar also revolutionized the therapeutic applications of yoga, gaining recognition for yoga as treatment for serious medical conditions.

Certified Iyengar Yoga teachers (excerpt from IYNAUS Teacher Certification page)
“Becoming a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher requires years of practice, study and a rigorous examination of skills. For teachers, the Certification Mark demonstrates a commitment to maintaining the purity, excellence and high standards of Iyengar Yoga.
Certified Iyengar Yoga instructors teach the method set forth by B. K. S. Iyengar without mixing in other styles or disciplines. They maintain a regular personal practice, continue their training with senior teachers or by traveling to the Iyengar institute in India, and hold to ethical guidelines.
Every Certified Iyengar Teacher has passed at least two rigorous, standardized assessments. Some have passed many more.
Becoming Iyengar Yoga teacher begins with long term, thorough and dedicated practice. One is a student of Iyengar Yoga for many years before becoming a teacher. Only after three years’ study, and after developing a relationship with a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher who agrees to become a mentoring teacher, may the candidate begin the application process. Then comes two years’ teaching, exclusively in the Iyengar Method — all before the actual testing begins. In the assessment process itself, candidates are carefully observed and evaluated as they demonstrate asanas and Pranayamas and as they teach a class of students.”
